Thanks to the Halle Center for Cultural Arts, we have been offering regular Community Dances in beautiful, historic downtown Apex, NC since 2012 (with a break from 2020 to 2024). Apex native Connie Carringer, along with several local musicians bring a variety of fun, easy dances to our intergenerational and diverse community. The dances come from a variety of traditions including Southern American Squares, English Country, and New England Contra Dance. The caller will teach each dance and do a walk through before it is danced to the music. Once the live band comes in, the caller continues to "call" the dance along to the music. No dance experience is required. For some dances children as young as 3 can participate, though they may need a parent or older sibling to partner with them. Generally, children 5 and up can easily dance independently at this kid-friendly and accessible event. The dance hall is on the second story and accessible by both stairs and elevator. Dances are easily adaptable to meet everyone where they are, just bring your dancing feet or wheels, an open heart, and community spirit. We will end our evening with a song. Everyone is welcome!
